How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Business

With 61+ five-star reviews of our own, we know a thing or two about building a strong Google review profile. Here's the system we recommend to our clients.

Why Google Reviews Matter

Google reviews affect your business in three critical ways:

  1. Local SEO rankings — More reviews = higher placement in Google Maps results
  2. Click-through rates — Star ratings in search results attract more clicks
  3. Trust and conversion — 93% of consumers read reviews before making a purchase decision

Step 1: Create a Direct Review Link

First, find your Google Business Profile ID and create a short direct link to your review page. This eliminates the multiple clicks it takes to leave a review.

Format: https://g.page/r/[YOUR-ID]/review

Alternatively, search 'write a review for [your business name]' on Google and copy the link.

Step 2: Ask at the Right Moment

The best time to ask for a review is immediately after delivering a positive outcome:

  • After completing a job
  • After receiving positive feedback
  • After a successful delivery or service
  • At the end of a satisfying customer interaction

Don't wait days or weeks — ask while the positive experience is fresh.

Step 3: Make It Easy

Most people want to help but won't if it requires effort. Reduce friction by:

  • Sending a direct link via WhatsApp or text
  • Including the link in your email signature
  • Adding a QR code on invoices, business cards, or receipts
  • Including a link in your post-service follow-up email

Step 4: Ask Personally

A personal request converts far better than a generic email. Say something like:

'Thanks for the great feedback! It would mean a lot to us if you could take 2 minutes to leave us a Google review — here's a direct link: [link]. It really helps us reach more local customers.'

Step 5: Respond to Every Review

Responding to reviews shows you're engaged and helps your rankings.

  • Positive reviews: Thank them genuinely and specifically
  • Negative reviews: Respond professionally, apologise, and offer to resolve offline

Step 6: Automate With Follow-Up Emails

Set up an automated email to go out 24–48 hours after a completed job, asking for a review with a direct link.

What Not to Do

  • Don't offer incentives (discounts, gifts) for reviews — Google can penalise you
  • Don't write fake reviews — they can get your listing removed
  • Don't ask multiple customers at once — sudden spikes look suspicious
