How to Build a Tradesperson Website That Wins More Jobs

Let's be honest: most tradesperson websites are pretty bad. Outdated designs, stock photos, no testimonials, no SEO — and then the owner wonders why they're still relying entirely on word of mouth.

Here's how to build a website that actually generates enquiries.

Why Tradespeople Need a Great Website

Your potential customers are changing. Fewer people ask their neighbours for recommendations — more people Google it. And when they search 'emergency electrician Redhill' or 'plumber near me', they're clicking on the websites that appear.

If your website doesn't appear — or looks unprofessional when they find it — you've lost the job before you've had a chance to quote.

What a Tradesperson Website Must Include

1. Clear Service Listing

List every service you offer clearly. Don't make people guess. A plumber's site should explicitly list: boiler repair, boiler installation, leak detection, emergency callouts, bathroom plumbing, etc.

2. Service Area

Clearly state where you work. Include specific towns and areas — this is vital for local SEO.

Example: 'We cover Oxted, Redhill, Reigate, Caterham, and all surrounding Surrey and Kent areas.'

3. Telephone Number — Big and Prominent

For service trades, the phone call is gold. Your number should be in the top right corner of every page, large enough to see immediately, and click-to-call on mobile.

4. Real Photos of Your Work

Before/after photos, finished jobs, your van with your branding on it. Real photos dramatically outperform stock images in building trust.

5. Accreditations and Certifications

Gas Safe registered? NICEIC approved? Member of Checkatrade? Display these prominently — they're trust builders that drive call volume.

6. Customer Testimonials

Include at least 10 real customer testimonials with names and (ideally) locations. Better still, embed your Google reviews widget to show them live.

7. About Page With a Real Photo

People hire tradespeople they feel they can trust. Show your face, tell your story, explain your values and experience.

8. Contact Form and Response Time Pledge

Not everyone wants to call — especially for non-emergency enquiries. Include a simple contact form. Add a pledge: 'We respond to all enquiries within 2 hours during working hours.'
